Blanch Wimer Celebrates her 90th Birthday

On Saturday August 24, Blanche Wimer celebrated her 90th birthday at the summer garden tour of the San Joaquin Valley Rose Society. What was to have been a pot luck and garden tour at the home of SJVRS member Rota Selmon, turned out to be a surprise birthday party for Blanche. Earl Parsons, Past District Director from San Francisco, wrote a poem honoring Blanche and read it. Blanche received many birhtday cars from members throughout the NCNH District. A special letter was received from ARS President Dr. Tommy Cairns wishing her a Happy Birthday and honoring her 52 years of service to the San Joaquin Valley Rose Socity, the NCNH District and the American Rose Society. Blanche aalso receive a Presidential Citation from Dr. Tommy cairns for exceptional Volunteer Service" to the San Joaquin Valley Rose Society, the NCNH District and the American Rose Society. Blanche is a charter member of the SJVRS organized in 1950, and is the onnly active charter member. During her 52 years of membership Blanche has held every society office including President three times. Blanche received the NCNH District Outstanding Consulting Rosarian in 1983, the NCNH District Silver Honor Medal in 1987 and was awarded the ARS Bronze Medal in 1993. Blanche still hosts arrangement workshops at her home, enters in the society rose show, judges rose shws and attends all society meetings.
