Thank you for visiting the San Joaquin Valley Rose Society's Home Page. We are one of twenty-seven rose societies of the Northern California-Nevada-Hawaii District of the American Rose Society. We are the southern most society in the District and are located in the center of the San Joaquin Valley. We were organized in January, 1950.
Our society is dedicated to promoting the rose in all of its' aspects-exhibiting, arranging, growing and much more. We have lots of experts who like to share their rose knowledge. Come to a meeting and let someone share their "love of roses" with you. We hope you will enjoy our site. We love to show and tell about our favorite flower.
The San Joaquin Valley Rose Society is a non-profit affiliate of The American Rose Society. The goals of the Society are to encourage and educate the public in growing and showing roses.
The San Joaquin Valley Rose Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the First Congregational Church-"The Big Red Church", located at 2131 N. Van Ness bewteen Shields and McKinley Ave., Fresno. Doors will open at 6:00 P.M. for placing specimens and arrangements in the Little Rose Show at the May, September and October meetings. The program or guest speaker for the meeting will begin at 6:30 P.M. and will be followed by a short business meeting. American Rose Society Consulting Rosarians are on hand to answer questions about rose culture and to give timely cultural tips. There are refreshments and door prizes at each meeting. 'Julia Child' is a medium yellow floribunda with great dieases resistance, lots of bloom and it grows well in the San Joaquin Valley. It was hybridized by Tom Carruth of Weeks Roses.
The San Joaquin Valley Rose Society is the luckiest Rose Society in the world to have such a distinguised person as Ralph Moore as a member. Besides being the oldest living hybridizer in the world, he is also the most honored hybridizer in the world. He has hybridized the most roses and the most Award of Excellence miniature roses. In paying a small tribute to Mr. Moore, web pages are returning from the archives so we can enjoy some of his many past accomplishments during his lifetime. Thank you Mr. Moore for inspiring so many people to enjoy the wonderful world of roses!!
